Is there anything special Ill need to do after treatment with BEXXAR? 1,5
Because BEXXAR contains radioisotopes, your body will give off some radiation. How much radiation the body gives off after treatment with BEXXAR varies from person to person, but after your treatment is completed, a healthcare professional will give you written instructions to take home with you. For example, youll be instructed not to share a bed with anyone and to avoid extended close physical contact with others for approximately 1 to 2 weeks after your treatment is completed. By following these instructions carefully, you will limit the exposure of your family and friends to radiation.
In some patients who receive BEXXAR, future lab tests or other treatments that the patients receive may be affected. Please remember to tell your other healthcare providers that you have been treated with BEXXAR.
You must continue to take your daily thyroid-protection medication that you started 24 hours before treatment began for 14 days after treatment with BEXXAR, since taking this medication can help prevent hypothyroidism. You should also get a test to check for hypothyroidism once a year.
